Sloane Dawson's art on display

SAXTONS RIVER >> Main Street Arts will be hosting an exhibit of the work of artist Sloane Dawson from June 20 to July 22, with an opening reception on Thursday, June 23 from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Dawson has titled her show "The Hammer's Song," and is asking viewers to "puzzle the intent, participate in the imaginative life of the artwork, and rejoice with the artist in the spirit of creativity."

Her works are collages of seemingly-unrelated material she assembles into objects that give form, design and life to the flotsam and jetsam of life.

Trained in the fine arts and primarily an oil painter, Dawson said she "returns with dedication to expressing myself creatively after a long period of time during which, because of life circumstances, I pursued other endeavors. At present, I am devising assemblages and box constructions and have developed my own style regardless of traditional art standards."

A resident of Rockingham, Dawson studied at the Hillyer College of the Hartford Art School and Silvermine College of Art and received a master's degree in art therapy from Goddard College/Vermont College. She has exhibited throughout Vermont and in Connecticut.

Examples of her work can be seen at sloane-adawson. Further information about the show and about Main Street Arts can be found on its website atmainstreetarts. org, on Facebook or by e-mailing info@mainstreetarts. org.
