Spring sports signups begin Wednesday at Rec

BRATTLEBORO — The Brattleboro Recreation & Parks Department will be holding registration for all of its spring sports today and Thursday at the Gibson-Aiken Center in the Conference Room from 1:30-6 p.m. You may register for the following during this time:

Girls Youth Softball — for girls in grades 3-6. The cost will be $40 for Brattleboro residents and $55 for non-residents. The Girls Youth Softball League is designed to teach the players the fundamentals of softball along with providing them with an enjoyable experience. There will be one or two practices a week and some games in surrounding towns. A t-shirt is included in the registration fee.

Brattleboro Small Fry Baseball — Boys and girls who were born between Sept. 1, 2008 and Aug. 31, 2011 are eligible to play. The fee is $35 for in-town residents and $50 for out-of-town residents.

T-Ball — Boys and girls who were born between Sept. 1, 2010 and Aug. 31, 2012 are eligible to participate. The cost will be $25 for Brattleboro residents and $40 for non-residents. A t-shirt is included in this fee. T-Ball is baseball for a young beginner. Youths will learn the fundamentals of baseball in an appropriate way, stressing safety, skills and fun. This league runs for approximately two months. Youngsters will be placed on a team, and will have one practice and one game per week. Each child will need a glove.

Youth Lacrosse — This program is for boys and girls from grades 3-8. There will be separate teams for boys and girls. The cost of the program will be: Boys Grades 3-8, $15 for residents and $30 for non-residents; Girls Grades 3-4, $45 for residents and $60 for non-residents; Girls Grades 5-8, $95 for residents and $110 for non-residents. Practice times are still to be determined. The fee for all girls includes a membership to US Lacrosse. Games and tournaments will be played within the region. There will be two or three practices a week and games/tournaments could be held on weekends or weekdays. Please note: a minimum of 17 participants is needed in order to run each age group

Women's Basketball League

BRATTLEBORO — On Monday, Houghton defeated Marina 53-48 at the Gibson-Aiken Center. Annie Holiday and Anna White paced the winners with 17 and 14 points respectively. Ashley Clough poured in 18 and Rachel McGahie added a dozen to lead Marina.
