Thursday December 20, 2012

Starting over the Christmas and New Year's holiday period, the Windham County START Team (Stop Teen Alcohol Risk Team) will be conducting special underage alcohol patrols throughout Windham County. The patrols will be watching for teenagers using false identification and adults supplying underage people with alcohol.

An underage person attempting to buy alcohol with a false ID is subject to possession of a false document, which carries a fine of $297 and up to 60 days of a suspended driver's license. Fines can reach up to $300 and 90 day suspensions depending on the charge.

Adults over the age of 21 who purchase alcohol for underaged teens face a minimum fine of $500 and criminal charges.

The START Team is made up of police officers from Windham County Police Departments, Vermont State Police, Vermont Department of Liquor Control, Vermont Fish and Wildlife and Windham County Sheriff's Department.
