Stolte Cup goes to BUHS athletes Savage, McGinn

BRATTLEBORO -- 2014 Brattleboro Union High School graduates Kayla Savage and Colby McGinn were awarded the Diedrich Stolte Memorial Cup.

The award, given by the class of 1929, goes to a boy and girl who have taken part in athletics and have won the respect and esteem of all with whom they have come into contact with through their faithfulness, loyalty, and cooperation in sports for the interests of BUHS.

The Allen Sowerby Memorial Award was presented to former Colonels cross-country skiing coach Bill Jahn. It is given annually to a person who has done the most to make the sports program at BUHS more meaningful to students and the community. Though retired, Jahn puts in countless hours grooming the area Nordic trails so that the BUHS teams and the community can enjoy the sport.

And the BUHS varsity boys lacrosse team was awarded the Vermont Division 1 Harry Loyzelle Sportsmanship Award as voted on by the members of the Vermont Lacrosse Officials Association.

The BUHS boys and girls lacrosse teams teamed up with the school’s Students Supporting Veterans to help raise money to support local homeless veterans.
