Summer food program begins July 8

ROCKINGHAM -- The Windham Northeast Supervisory Union is participating in the Summer Food Service Program for Children. Funded by the United States Department of Agriculture, the program is designed to ensure that children who rely on free or reduced price meals during the school year continue to have adequate nutrition throughout the summer. Meals will be provided to all children without charge and are the same for all children regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service.

Meals are available Monday through Friday from July 8 to Aug. 15 to all children 18 years of age or younger (adults will not be served) at the following locations: Central Elementary in Bellows Falls from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.; the Rockingham Free Public Library from 11:15 to 11:45a.m.; the Saxtons River Recreation Center from 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., and Le Studio Dance from 9:30 to 9:45 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

The Saxtons River Recreation Center is a drop site, where participation is called in daily and lunch is bagged and dropped off. The Rockingham Public Library and Le Studio are closed/enrolled sites where meals are free to enrolled children 18 and under. Any activities offered at Le Studio must have an enrollment and payment to the facility. Participants for the Rockingham Public Library must have their attendance known by 9:30 a.m. to be included in the daily meal.

Contact the Windham Northeast Supervisory Union at 802-463-9958 for any specific questions about the sites. C&S Wholesale Grocers donated paper products and supplies to the daily meals program.
