Sunday service and Monday Lessons and Carols in Newfane
NEWFANE -- Christmas Sunday will be celebrated at the First Congregational Church of Newfane on Sunday, Dec. 23. The Advent Candle of Joy will be lit by Jean and Rick Wilson. The title of the Rev. Robert Hamm’s sermon is "The Heart’s Unfolding" with scripture from Luke, chapter 1 and verses 39-55.
Congregational hymns include "We Light the Advent Candle," "In the Bleak Midwinter" and "Angels We Have Heard on High." The choir will sing the anthem "See Amid the Winter’s Snow" and special music will also be provided by Bill Berner who will sing "Where’s the Line to See Jesus." The prelude "The First Noel" and the postlude "In Excelsis Deo" will be played by organist/music director Martha LaMoria.
The Christmas Eve Service of Lessons and Carols will be held on Monday, Dec. 24, at 7:30 p.m. when the Christ Candle will be lit by the Colligan family.
Special music for the service will be Zinnia Hull singing the introit "Once in Royal David’s City," the senior choir singing "Still, Still, Still." The Newfane Community Handbell Choir will play "O Come Let Us Adore Him," and Debbie Cook will sing "O Holy Night." The prelude, "Wake, Awake for Night is Flying" and the postlude "Fantasia on "Adeste Fidelis" will be played by organist Martha LaMoria.
A special offering will be taken for the Southern Vermont Fuel Assistance Program.
