Terriers top Wildcats, 15-5


WESTMINSTER >> Paxton Santorelli had three hits and drove in four runs, and she was also in on a double play defensively, to lead the Bellows Falls varsity softball team to a 15-5 victory over Twin Valley on Wednesday.

Abbe Cravinho chipped in with a bases-clearing double, Emily Stoddard crossed the plate four times, and Shanice Fisher had two RBI's for the 1-1 Terriers. Murphy Hicks (5 K's) fired a two-hitter to earn the win.

Twin Valley coach Jeff Putnam was pleased with the play of his battery — freshman pitcher Jarrett Niles and catcher Leah Putnam. Briana Rafus, Jordyn Bolognani, Callie Dix and Putnam all had a couple of hits for the 0-2 Wildcats.

On Monday, Twin Valley lost to West Rutland 10-6 in its season opener. Karlee Walkoviak and Briana Rafus were the defensive standouts for the Wildcats, while Walkoviak also went 2 for 4 at the dish with a pair of triples.

Moultonborough 12, Hinsdale 5

HINSDALE, N.H. >> In Carl Anderson's head coaching debut, Moultonborough's Madison Greene struck out eight batters in relief to get the victory.

Jen Matuszewski, Lauren Southwick and Kelsey Spindler all went 2 for 3 for Anderson's Pacers. Southwick and Mariah Nichols (1 hit) each drove in two runs.

"The Hinsdale team started the season playing a great team and played hard," said the rookie coach.

The Pacers will play a doubleheader in Pittsfield on Saturday.
