The North dominates VBCA All-Star games

BRATTLEBORO -- Leland & Gray’s Ashley Goddard scored eight points, but her South All-Stars were routed by the North, 89-57, in the Division 3-4 girls basketball game on Saturday at Windsor High School.

Leland & Gray’s Gregg Morrow coached that South team, which had three other area players on its roster including Alexandra Morrow of the Rebels, along with Twin Valley’s Abbi Molner and Lexi Reinertson.

Leland & Gray’s Michael Bergeron and Drew Barnum were both named to the South’s Division 3-4 boys team, which fell to the North, 93-80. Tanner Tibbs of Windsor and Proctor’s Ryan Petrini paced the South with nine and eight points respectively.

In Division 1-2 action, the South won the boys game 87-84 and the North took the girls contest 72-59. MAU’s Aaryngston Bibens scored a dozen points to help the South boys, while Montpelier’s Annie Jones (16 points) and Hartford’s Stephanie Grobe (15) did the damage for the South girls.

Grobe and Missisquoi’s Matt St. Amour were named the Vermont Basketball Coaches Association Players of the Year. The Tommy Finnell Outstanding Service Award went to Windsor assistant coach Don Swinyer.
