Town Schools Theater Production presents 'Princess Willow and the Queen of Thieves'

BRATTLEBORO >> Town Schools Theater presents "Princess Willow and the Queen of Thieves," a slapstick send-up of medieval adventure tales. Written by Stephen Stearns and Peter Amidon and lightly abridged by Jonny Flood, it tells the story of Princess Willow and her stable-boy love Harold as they fight against the evil Queen Clottena and her goons to free their kingdom from overbearing 'protection taxes.' With the help of Robin Hood wannabe-thieves, farmers, a nurse, Harold's parents, and a musical witch, this tough group of serfs and citizens will slap and slow-motion chase-scene their way to a happy ending. It is directed by Jonny Flood and Jess Rowan.

Town Schools Theatre is a partnership between the New England Youth Theatre (NEYT) and Academy, Green Street and Oak Grove elementary schools. Students in fourth, fifth and sixth grades from each school have participated in a free after school program to learn theater skills and rehearse. In the past NEYT has led outreach programs at each school, but the principals had the idea to create a unified program so that all students in the public elementary schools can have equal access to the arts. The Town Schools Theatre project is made possible by grants from The Vermont Children's Trust, The Vermont Community Foundation and C&S Wholesale Grocers.

Performances will be held Jan. 22 through 24, Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m, Saturday and Sunday at 2 pm. at the New England Youth Theater, 100 Flat St., Brattleboro.

All tickets $6 available online at www.neyt.org or stop in the office at 100 Flat St., Brattleboro or call 802-246-6398 ext. 101 or 102.
