Transfiguration and Fat Sunday at Guilford Community Church

GUILFORD -- Alleluias continue at Guilford tomorrow morning at 10am with a celebration of Transfiguration Sunday, concluding with the annual Fat Sunday and Mardi Gras celebration. The scripture from Luke 9:28-43 in which Jesus is transformed before the disciples serves as the focus of the service. Peter Amidon will lead the choir in anthems celebrating this moment, "Here I am Lord" and "Hallelujah", both original arrangements. The Sunday School children will offer a puppet show, "Pay It Forward", for the adults in preparation for next week’s One Great Hour of Sharing, a special collection for global ministries. During the sermon, Thomas and Elizabeth Israel will share their experiences of transfiguration during a recent time of trial. The service concludes with the annual Mardi Gras parade and special reception Fat Sunday reception.

This service sets the stage for the onset of Lent which begins Wednesday Feb. 13 with a 7 p.m. Ash Wednesday service and Lent begins next Sunday, Feb. 17 and will include a Lenten lunch series after church each week though March 24. Everyone is welcome.
