Trophy Game, Homecoming in Week 4

Posted
BRATTLEBORO — The Bellows Falls varsity football team will be seeking its eighth consecutive victory over Springfield in the 52nd annual Trophy Game on Friday night at 7.

The Terriers now have a 55-42 record against the Cosmos in the series that dates back to 1914. They outgained their rivals 372-41 in the first half of last year's showdown, which BF ended up winning 42-6.

And this might not be the best time to face the Purple Gang, who are coming off of a 23-6 loss to Burr and Burton. Running back Shane Clark led BF in that contest with over 100 yards rushing and his eighth touchdown of the season.

Springfield will counter with feature back Matt LaChapelle, who ran for 152 yards and a pair of scores in a 53-22 loss to Windsor. Quarterback Kyle Monier added a 13-yard TD strike to Mason Olney.

On Saturday at 3:45 p.m., Brattleboro will host Burlington.

That game will cap off the school's Homecoming Weekend, with the other Saturday contests including the BUHS girls soccer team hosting Springfield at 10 a.m., the BUHS boys soccer team welcoming Woodstock at noon, the Brattleboro stickers taking on Windsor at 2 p.m. on Tenney Field, and the Brattleboro cross-country team competing in Manchester, N.H. at 10 a.m.

The Colonels started the season with losses to Rutland, Bellows Falls, and Mount Mansfield. Durin Hoyer and Tyler Millerick have been bright spots thus far, with the veteran linebacker having made a dozen tackles against the Terriers and the sophomore quarterback having already thrown four touchdown passes.

The BUHS defense will be asked to slow down Manny Dodson and Kevin Garrison — each had two rushing touchdowns for Burlington in a 41-7 rout of South Burlington a week ago. Those backfield mates also combined for 182 yards on the ground.
