Tsarnaev prosecutor appointed first assistant US attorney
BOSTON >> Massachusetts U.S. Attorney Carmen Ortiz has announced the appointment of career prosecutor William Weinreb as her first assistant United States attorney.
The Boston Globe reports Weinreb is best known for leading the team of prosecutors that secured a death sentence for Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev last year.
Weinreb will advise Ortiz on legal affairs including complex civil cases and questions of law in criminal indictments. He previously served as counsel to Ortiz for a period of two years.
Ortiz released a statement that said Weinreb's experience and longstanding commitment to public service will serve the district of Massachusetts well.
Weinreb said he's proud to help lead an office that makes the commonwealth a better place by combatting crime and protecting the rights of citizens.
