Turkey Drop at Townshend Community Food Shelf
By Christine Dyke
TOWNSHEND - On Monday Nov. 18 at 9:30 a.m. the Townshend Community Food Shelf will host its first ever Turkey Drop. This will be an experience unlike any you've experienced. Each $5 donation is tied to a one square foot "deed" on the front lawn of the Townshend Church. Proceeds from the Turkey Drop will be used to defray the cost of holiday baskets for the Townshend Community Food Shelf.
We'll ring the bell on Nov. 18 and a special guest will drop a turkey from the steeple of the Townshend Church while spectators gather to see where it lands. The donor owning the square where the turkey drops wins! You may donate as many times as you wish and need not be present to win - although we can't think of anyone who wouldn't want to cheer for their square. Prior to the release of the turkey there will be a flock of warm up chickens with prizes donated by local businesses. No animals or food will be used during the drops.
If you would like to donate to the Townshend Community Food Shelf Turkey Drop, squares may be reserved at the Townshend Church 802-365-4321, at the Townshend Pumpkin Festival on Oct. 19, or Saturdays between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. beginning Oct. 26 at the River Bend Farm Market in Townshend.
Proceeds from the Turkey Drop will be used to defray the cost of holiday baskets for the Townshend Community Food Shelf. Any amount not used for holiday baskets will be used for regular food purchases.
