Twin Valley boys open at Rivendell

Saturday December 1, 2012

BRATTLEBORO -- In its short history, the Twin Valley boys basketball team has averaged more than 15 wins per season, made three trips to "the Aud" and has sent seven players to Vermont’s North/South Senior All Star game.

All of that info can be found on the Wildcats’ homepage, along with the program’s motto: work hard in the classroom as well as on the basketball court.

"We will play an up-tempo style with good team speed," said Twin Valley coach Chris Brown, whose team will open up at Rivendell on Friday, Dec. 14, at 5 p.m. "We gained a lot of valuable experience during last year’s 6-15 season."

Point guard Colin Lozito, who has 215 dimes in his first two years at the varsity level, will be joined in the starting lineup by Cade and Dal Nesbitt, Eli Park and Sam Molner. And those four will have to hit their open shots if Lozito is going to break the school’s all-time assists record -- 442 by Scott Hayford.

But that might be the only career mark in jeopardy in the near future. The 823 rebounds by Troy Birch and 1,827 points by Dave Rosso seem pretty safe.

Lozito, an unselfish playmaker that excites crowds by exploding toward the hole before dishing or shooting, has scored 407 points for the Wildcats -- an average of 9.7 per game. He also has 112 steals and 103 rebounds.

But he won’t get to break any ankles in Wilmington until Jan. 2, when the Wildcats welcome Leland & Gray for their home opener at 7:30 p.m.

Dal Nesbitt has racked up 300 points, 75 assists and 161 boards in his first two seasons, while Cade Nesbitt has 187 points, 76 dimes and 102 caroms. Those two have combined for 169 swipes.

And Brown gives his players the green light from downtown. Lozito has 47 makes from beyond the arc, while Dal has a team-high 48 and Cade has drained 31 treys.

Molner and Park have 161 and 84 rebounds respectively. Molner has also knocked down 17 money balls and scored 130 points in limited playing time.

Twin Valley roster: Coach -- Chris Brown. Seniors -- Hunter Therrien, Jason Moore, Jared Lambert. Juniors -- Colin Lozito, Cade Nesbitt, Dal Nesbitt, Dylan Johnson, Keegan Reed, Eli Park, Jeremy Hunt. Sophomore -- Sam Molner. Freshman -- DJ Lazelle.
