Twin Valley Elementary School mourns teacher's death

Posted

WILMINGTON >> Twin Valley Elementary School was cancelled Monday after a veteran teacher at the school died.

"TVES lost a dear friend and colleague on Sunday," Superintendent Chris Pratt said. "TVES will be closed today (Monday), so that the faculty, staff and school community can grieve and mourn the passing of a dear friend as TVES prepares for the students' return on Tuesday. We are all deeply saddened and our hearts and prayers go out to her family."

The death of Karen Chase was completely unexpected, said Wilmington School Board Chairman Adam Grinold. Chase was a kindergarten and first grade math and literacy coach employed with the Wilmington district for 17 years. Her untimely death involved a medical incident.

A letter went out expressing condolences to Chase's family and the staff.

Chase was a member of the school's leadership team, which oversees the vision of the school and its multi-tiered system of support.
