Bellows Falls — Village Square Booksellers welcomes Newfane author Archer Mayor on Friday at 7 p.m. to discuss his 27th Joe Gunther mystery, "Presumption of Guilt." A forty-year-old skeleton is found encased in a concrete slab at a recently decommissioned nuclear energy site. It becomes a case for the Vermont Bureau of Investigation (VBI) and its leader, Joe Gunther, since they have the resources and the ability to investigate an old, very cold, missing persons case that has now been reclassified as murder. Then join Village Square Booksellers in welcoming BFUHS '78 author Garry Harrington to discuss his newest book, "Chasing Summits," on Saturday at 10 a.m. Garry Harrington hardly recognized himself in photos any more. Staring down his fortieth birthday, he no longer looks like the collegiate athlete who once loved hiking and running. His dream job as a sports writer no longer holds the same thrill. As his marriage crumbles, he comes to the uncomfortable realization that something has to change before he loses himself entirely. On the trails of New Hampshire's Mount Monadnock, he begins to feel it. Every heart-pounding slog up gets easier; every break on the summit feels freer, until he racks up 1,000 ascents. Garry Harrington is a peakbagger, ultramarathonner, freelance sportswriter, and film promoter. His writing has appeared in the Boston Globe, the Kansas City Star, and more.
