Unions, politicians gather to celebrate workers in Vermont

BURLINGTON (AP) - Vermont labor unions are planning to rally for workers and their rights at two locations on Labor Day.

And the state's left-leaning independent U.S. senator, Bernie Sanders will be joining them.

Events are set for noon at Burlington's Battery Park - the rain site is Memorial Auditorium on Main Street.

At 5 p.m., a similar rally is scheduled for the Town Green in Middlebury.

Dean Corren, the Progressive and Democratic nominee for lieutenant governor, also says he'll participate.

Labor groups joining in the rallies include the Vermont AFL-CIO, Vermont National Education Association, the Vermont State Employees Association, United Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers of America and the Vermont Workers' Center.
