BRATTLEBORO -- A morning bank robbery in downtown Brattleboro was thwarted, Friday, when the suspect was taken into custody without incident.

Brattleboro Police were called to Key Bank on Main Street, just before 10 a.m., to respond to a robbery in progress.

According to police, one male, later identified as 42-year-old Shawn Arguin, was taken into custody as he was exiting the bank. No town of residence for Arguin was provided.

A sign in the door at Key Bank stated the branch would be closed for the rest of the day.

According to an eyewitness, retired Brattleboro officer John "Zippo" Frechette assisted in the apprehension. Police have yet to confirm this report, however.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.
