Vermont board recommends Act 46 merger study
SOUTH ROYALTON, VT. >> A transition board formed for a Vermont supervisory union has recommended moving forward with a study that will explore how to reorganize the union's 10 school districts into three.
The Valley News reports the study would be the newly merged White River Valley Supervisory Union's next step toward complying with Act 46.
The state law is designed to encourage Vermont's school districts to look at merging with their neighbors for greater efficiency.
The board last week approved an Act 46 report in South Royalton recommending the study of the district mergers. Three study committees would separately investigate the possibility of merging governance boards according to the types schools in their districts.
The White River Valley Supervisory Union includes six Upper Valley communities.
