Vermont cruises in Shrine Bowl


BRATTLEBORO >> Fair Haven's Ryan Alexander fired five TD passes and Rutland's Andy Kenosh threw two of his own as Vermont demolished New Hampshire, 50-2, in the 63rd annual Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl football game on Saturday night at Castleton University.

Lucas Czarnecki caught three scoring strikes for the Green Mountain Boys, who took a 36-0 lead to the break after holding the Granite Staters to negative yardage. Connor Plante finished with a couple of TD receptions, while Cam Slade and Austin O'Gorman added one apiece.

Brattleboro's Aleks Harrison and Taylor King, along with Zach Streeter of Bellows Falls, all played for the winning team. Harrison had a team-high 10 tackles for Vermont.

New Hampshire entered the contest on a 15-game winning streak. "The 603" now has a 47-14-2 record in this series.
