Vermont inmate accused of assaulting man who was sleeping
RUTLAND (AP) - A Vermont inmate has been accused of assault after authorities said he attacked another inmate who was sleeping.
Police arrested 31-year-old Joseph Maier Jr. of Bennington at the Marble Valley Regional Correctional Facility in Rutland on Thursday.
Police said Maier allegedly entered the cell and attacked Todd Green, who was sleeping on his bunk. Corrections officers used pepper spray to stop Maier.
Green suffered minor injuries.
Maier was charged with disorderly conduct and simple assault. He was being detained on a charge of false information to a law enforcement officer and other offenses.
