Vermont State Police arrest man following fight on I-89

HARTFORD (AP) - Vermont State Police say they've arrested a Claremont man in what they describe as a brutal assault along Interstate 89 in Hartford.

Police say the assault happened in the early morning hours of Jan. 13 during a fight resulting from an argument earlier at a bar in New Hampshire.

According to police, victim Robert Schneider told them the trouble started when his sister's boyfriend was becoming involved with another woman. As the two men rode home together, police say they stopped on the highway and suspect Wesley Vorhes allegedly knocked Schneider unconscious and repeatedly punched him in the face.

The 47-year-old Vorhes was arrested Sunday afternoon on a felony aggravated assault charge and is due in court Tuesday.

Schneider told police that surgeons will have to perform reconstructive surgery on his face and that he has nerve damage that may never fully heal.
