Vermont town reports wastewater spill into Lake Champlain

SHELBURNE, VT. >> Officials say a malfunction at a wastewater facility in a Vermont town has led to the release of about 110,000 gallons of unchlorinated wastewater into Lake Champlain.

Shelburne Town Manager Joe Calangelo says the release of the sewage began at around 8 p.m. Tuesday and continued until it was discovered by plant operators Wednesday morning.

Calangelo says plant operators have notified the state Department of Environmental Conservation through its website and have arranged for the chlorination process to continue.
