BRATTLEBORO >> When the UConn women's basketball team begins its journey toward a fourth-straight National Championship today, 10 area girls will be at Gampel Pavilion in Storrs, Conn. to cheer the Huskies on.
And during halftime of the Robert Morris-Connecticut tournament showdown that will start at 11:03 a.m., those Vipers AAU seventh graders will take the court for a short game. The players include Audrey Martin, Natalie Hendricks, Julie Hendricks, Sarah Butterfield, Katrina Tao, Brenna Beebe, Delaney Wilcox, Angelina Nardilillo, Amelia Harrison, and Lily Giroux.
Coached by Tom Hendricks Jr., Jaida Henry and Amber Pillsbury, the Vipers will compete in five tournaments this season. The first of those is scheduled for April 2-3 in Barre, followed by tourneys in Putney, Castleton, Burlington, and Keene, N.H.
The 32-0 Huskies enter March Madness on a 69-game winning streak and have captured the last three titles. And Robert Morris has 6-3 center Mikalah Mulrain, who has blocked 46 shots this season.
UConn, Baylor, South Carolina and Notre Dame are the four No. 1 seeds in the Division 1 bracket.
