Volunteers needed at ‘The Moving Wall’

Saturday May 11, 2013

WILMINGTON -- The American Legion Nelson E. Pickwell Post No. 15 has announced that the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Moving Wall will be on display from June 13 to 17 at Mount Snow’s Howe Farm Field on Route 100. "The Moving Wall" is the half-size replica of the Washington, D.C., Vietnam Veterans Memorial that has been touring the country for more than 20 years.

The American Legion invites the public to share the experience of visiting the Vietnam Veterans Memorial especially for those without the opportunity to travel to Washington. The display honors the men and women of the armed forces of the United States who served in the Vietnam War. The names of those who gave their lives and of those who remain missing are inscribed on the wall in the order they were taken. The display will be open for five consecutive days and is appropriate for all ages.

The American Legion is seeking community volunteers for the event to assist with construction/assembly of the display, staffing, landscaping, lighting and more. The Legion is accepting financial donations as well to support this effort. For information on how to volunteer in any capacity, or to donate contact the Event Coordinator, Susie Haughwout, at 802-464-5836 or wilmclrk@sover.net.
