Volunteers needed for SEVCA's tax prep program
Currently, there is a shortage of volunteers to be based at SEVCA's main office, 91 Buck Drive, Westminster.
There is a huge demand for the VITA program at this location, and SEVCA would like to encourage the public to consider helping out. Training sessions are held on Tuesday afternoons from 3 to 5 p.m. on Dec. 12 and on Jan. 2, 9, 16, and 23. The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program offers free tax help to people who are low to moderate income, persons with disabilities, elderly and limited English-speaking taxpayers who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns. IRS-certified volunteers provide free federal and state income tax return preparation with electronic filing. Hundreds of thousands dollars in tax refunds and credits come back into the community each year through area VITA programs.
Don't know that much about taxes? Don't worry — volunteers receive specialized training from a certified VITA instructor plus IRS online courses. We are looking for individuals who are willing and able to commit three to four hours per week from Jan. 30 through April 10. Although prior tax preparation experience is not necessary, a commitment to training and certification is required. Continuing on-site training and supervision is provided during the tax preparation season.
