VSNAP to get briefing on VY evacuation zone
BRATTLEBORO -- The Public Service Department announced that the next meeting of the Vermont State Nuclear Advisory Panel will be held on Wednesday, July 17, from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Grand Hall of the Quality Inn and Conference Center, 1380 Putney Road in Brattleboro.
The agenda for the July 17 meeting includes an update from Vermont Yankee on Nuclear Regulatory Commission requests and orders related to the disaster at Fukushima, Japan, in 2011.
There also will be a presentation by Erica Bornemann of Vermont Emergency Management Homeland Security on additional funding appropriated to enhance Vermont Yankee emergency planning. Recently, the Vermont Legislature and the Governor approved a dramatic increase in funding to the Vermont and New Hampshire Upper Valley American Red Cross to help it expand its capability in responding to a disaster at the nuclear power plant in Vernon.
Also on the agenda will be a discussion of the results of the Vermont Yankee emergency exercise held on June 5. In addition, State Nuclear Engineer Uldis Vanags will present a draft of the 2012 VSNAP Annual Report.
Members of the public are welcome.
