VSP: Woman in rollover likely to be cited for DUI

ROCKINGHAM -- A Plainfield woman was recovering at the hospital Friday afternoon, 24 hours after Vermont State Police say the Jeep she was driving collided with two other vehicles and rolled onto its side after she crossed the median of Interstate 91 South.

Nicole Graves, 35, was transported by helicopter to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H., shortly after 1:30 p.m., Thursday, and was processed for driving under the influence.

The northbound lane between Exits 5 and 6 was closed for roughly three and a half hours and the crash is still under investigation. On Friday, the Reformer made contact with Graves, who said she was all right.

According to the state police from the Rockingham barracks, Graves was traveling south on I-91 when she crossed the median and collided with the trailer of a tractor-trailer driven by Francis Tutten, 67, of Fultonham, N.Y., in the right lane.

Police say Graves then collided with a 2004 Saab 93 driven by Robert Kathan, 64, of Ludlow, who was traveling north in the left lane. The 2003 Jeep Liberty driven by Graves then partially overturned in the median and the northbound lane near mile-marker 34. Police say the vehicle was destroyed.

VSP Cpl. Mike Sorensen told the Reformer there is enough evidence to soon cite Graves with driving under the influence, though police are awaiting the results of a blood test. Sorensen said Graves may also be cited with negligent operation.

VSP was assisted at the scene by the Bellows Falls Fire Department, the Rockingham Volunteer Fire Department, Golden Cross Ambulance, Inc. and the Vermont Agency of Transportation.
