Wells 2nd on team in goals, assists


BRATTLEBORO >> Sophomore Sarah Wells has eight goals and four assists for the Castleton University field hockey team, which is off to a 6-9 start.

The forward from Bellows Falls tallied twice in an 8-5 victory over Morrisville State, had two goals and an assist on Tuesday versus Wells, and has also scored against Union, Daniel Webster, Mount Holyoke and New England College.

Among her Castleton teammates are MAU's Rachel and Leah Holland, Rutland's Mia Sanborn, and the Fair Haven duo of Cassidy Auger and Anna-Michelle Fabian.

Wells and the Bellows Falls Union High School varsity field hockey team had a combined 41-10-4 record from 2011-2014. The team went 4-4 in the playoffs in that time, including a 2-1 loss to Stowe in a championship game.

Coached by Bethany Coursen, some of Wells' BF teammates were McKenzie Brandon, Kya Coursen, Molly Dufault, Anna Clark, Cassidy Santorelli, Morgan Finnell and Quinn Lawrence. As a high school senior, Wells went off for 23 goals and 20 assists.

Wells and the Spartans will play at Colby-Sawyer today at 1 p.m.
