WESTMINSTER -- The Westminster Cares, Inc. Board of Directors met March 6 at the Westminster Firehouse with Connie Sanderson, president of the group, presiding. The following board members were present: Susan Clifford, Nan Blanchard, Heidi Anderson, Reggie Borden, Barbara Carey, Sally Ryea, Don Dawson, Kathy Elliot, Susan Harlow, Director Ronnie Friedman, Donna Dawson, assistant director.
Westminster Cares creates opportunities for seniors and disabled adults to live with independence and dignity in the community.
Services provided: Meals on Wheels, 23 volunteers delivered meals throughout the month to 16 people on a daily basis in addition to frozen meals to seven people on Fridays for weekend meals.
During February, 12 rides were provided by five volunteers driving four Westminster residents to medical appointments, shopping or programs for a total of 720 miles.
During February, the nurse made 10 visits to four homes in Westminster for a total of 7.5 hours and a blood pressure clinic at senior meals.
Several pieces of equipment were loaned out in February and several pieces were donated. An electric wheelchair and an electric scooter are now available, although batteries will be needed for both.
Walkers, commodes, shower chairs, wheel chairs, and hospital beds are available for borrowing.
Walkers with wheels and seats, bed rails, four-prong walkers, shower chairs, lift chairs and crutches with arm support are needed.
Meetings attended in February included bookkeeper, Gazette, website, committees and home visits.
Programs during the February included: Two Secrets of Healthy Aging session, two yoga classes, 24 Strength Training classes and five Artist in Each of Us classes.
Many hours of assistance to Westminster residents and their families, working with social services agencies, Senior Solutions, the VA, Red Cross, Adult Protective Services and the Visiting Nurses.
