WESTMINSTER -- The Westminster Cares, Inc. Board of Directors met Feb. 6 at the Westminster Firehouse. President Connie Sanderson was present, along with board members Susan Clifford, Pete Harrison, Nan Blanchard, Reggie Borden, Barbara Carey, Don Dawson, Kathy Elliot, Susan Harlow, Miriam Lanata, Director Ronnie Friedman and Assistant Director Donna Dawson. Westminster Cares creates opportunities for seniors and disabled adults to live with independence and dignity in the community.
Services provided: Meals on Wheels, 23 volunteers delivered meals throughout the month to 16 people on a daily basis.
During January, 14 rides were provided by six volunteers who drove three Westminster residents to medical appointments, shopping or programs for a total of 330 miles.
During January the nurse made five visits to two homes in Westminster for a total of 4.5 hours.
Several pieces of equipment were loaned out in January and several pieces were donated. An electric wheelchair and an electric scooter were donated, batteries will be needed for both. Walkers with wheels and seats, bed rails, four-prong walkers, shower chairs, lift chairs and crutches with arm support are needed. Walkers, commodes, shower chairs, wheel chairs, and hospital beds are available for borrowing.
Bookkeeper and Gazette meetings were attended in January. Programs included: Two Secrets of Healthy Aging sessions, two Yoga classes, 24 Strength Training classes and five Artist in Each of Us classes.
Many hours of assistance were given to Westminster residents and their families, working with social services agencies, Senior Solutions, the VA, Red Cross, Adult Protective Services and the Visiting Nurses.

Memorial donations made in February were: In memory of Jeff Walsh from Fran Walsh; in memory of my sister, Patricia Jennison, from Betty Miller; in honor of Mark Porter from Susan and Russell Seguin; and an anonymous donation in honor of all the Westminster Cares staff and volunteers.
