WESTMINSTER -- The Westminster Cares, Inc. Board of Directors met Sept. 5 at the Westminster Firehouse with President Connie Sanderson presiding. Board members present were Susan Clifford, Pete Harrison, Nan Blanchard, Barbara Carey, Don Dawson, Kathy Elliot, Susan Harlow, Arnie Knowlton, Miriam Lanata, Sally Ryea. Karen Walter, Director Ronnie Friedman and Assistant Director Donna Dawson.

Westminster Cares creates opportunities for seniors and disabled adults to live with independence and dignity in the community.

Twelve people are now receiving Meals-on-Wheels . During June, July and August, 12 different volunteers provided rides for seven different people for a total of 800 miles. The nurse made 12 visits to four different homes in Westminster for a total of 8 1/2 hours and a blood pressure clinic at the senior lunch.

Several pieces of equipment were loaned out in summer and several pieces were donated. Equipment was borrowed from Putney Cares. An electric scooter is now available. There are walkers, a hospital bed, commodes, shower chairs and wheel chairs available for loan. There is still a need for wheel chairs and walkers with wheels and seats and hospital beds.

Meetings attended this summer included: Bookkeeper, Gazette, Development Director, web site, garden tour, Putney Cares, Senior Solutions, Saxtons River group, Holt-Ames grant informational meeting and Valley Cares informational meeting. There were six Secrets of Healthy Aging sessions, 13 yoga classes, many Strength Training classes and 13 Artist in Each of Us classes.

The SEVCA Flea Market fundraiser is being held Sept. 29 and the Welcome Center fundraiser on Oct. 8.
