WINOOSKI -- The No. 5 Winooski girls basketball team trounced No. 12 Twin Valley in the first round of the Division 3 Tournament for the second year in a row, beating the Wildcats 51-31 on Wednesday night.

"The girls gave a valiant effort," said Twin Valley assistant coach Chris Walling. The Wildcats finished up with a 7-14 record, while the 15-6 Spartans advanced to the quarterfinals.

Fallon Perrault scored 15 points and Amanda Nattress added 11 to lead the hosts, who took a 26-19 advantage to the break.

Abbi Molner paced the Wildcats with nine points -- all coming in the opening half. Colton Butler and Hannah Swanson each followed with six, while Christina Moore added five.

Twin Valley coach Buddy Hayford noted that Sammy Cunningham and Butler did an excellent job defending against Winooski’s star guards.

MONTPELIER -- Madison Bennett poured in 16 points as the Raiders cruised into the quarterfinals.

"Got down in a hole very early and that made it hard to come back. We were out-sized pretty handily," said Terriers coach Justin Aube, whose team finished up with a 4-17 record.

Emily Dufault and Chelsea Wilder paced Bellows Falls with 10 and seven points respectively. Emily and Molly Dufault worked their tails off defensively, according to the Bellows Falls coach.

"I think it was U-32’s 20th win in a row. They are an all-around really good team," added Aube.
