Wilmington PD investigates sexual assault of minor

WILMINGTON - As of 11:30 a.m., Vermont State Police and the Wilmington Police Department are involved in an ongoing police investigation. According to a source knowledgeable of the incident, it involves sexual assault on a minor.

Wilmington Town Manager Scott Murphy, who is not the source, told the Reformer that police are collecting evidence and Wilmington Police Chief Joe Szarejko will be issuing a statement about the incident later this afternoon.

"There's no murder or shooting involved," said Murphy, deflecting rumors that have been circulating in town today. "As far as I know, there were no guns involved. That was a crazy rumor going around."
