Wood named tourney MVP


BRATTLEBORO — Brattleboro Union High School graduate Kayla Wood was named the North Atlantic Conference Tournament MVP after pitching Castleton University to a 3-1 victory over Thomas in the NAC championship softball game on Saturday. The junior struck out 11 and scattered five hits.

In the opening round of the tourney, Wood fanned 10 during a 2-1 decision over Husson. She then pitched 2.2 innings of relief in her team's semifinal win over Thomas.

The 20-11 Spartans will find out their NCAA Tournament fate during the NCAA Selection Show today at 1 p.m.

BRATTLEBORO >> The Castleton University men's lacrosse team fell to New England College, 17-11, in the NAC championship game on Friday. Brattleboro Union High School grads Nik Rancourt and Sam Siegel each took four shots for the Spartans, while former Colonel Romello Lindsey made five saves in 29 minutes of action. Siegel finished the season with 21 goals and 13 assists, Rancourt ended up with 12 goals and seven dimes, and Lindsey made 61 total stops.

BRATTLEBORO >> On Sunday, the Castleton baseball team downed Husson, 6-5, to win the NAC Championship. Michael Labeau, who is a Bellows Falls grad, pitched a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save.
