Woodman gymnasts compete in states


BRATTLEBORO -- Gymnasts from Woodman Athletics recently competed in the Vermont State Meet. The meet was hosted by Vermont USA Gymnastics at the Bellows Falls High School.

Level 3’s Roxanne Burt, Aliza Speno, Bree Beattie, Kali Taylor, Sara Perrin, Jade Stevens-Mills, Bay Holmes, Sophia Mikijaniec, Anya Taylor, Devi Soun, Sarah Gordon-Macey, Alex Crowder, Anja Stolper, and Sienna Sperling took 2nd in the team competition with teammate Eva Gould there to cheer them on.

In the 8-year-old age division, Speno took 1st on vault, beam, and floor, securing her 3rd place all-around finish while teammate Kali Taylor took 2nd on vault. Sara Perrin took 1st on bars and 2nd on floor in the 9-year-old age division. In the 10-year-old age division, Stevens-Mills took 1st on vault, 2nd on bars, 3rd on floor, and 2nd in the all-around. Holmes took 2nd on vault and 3rd on bars and Mikijaniec took 3rd on vault. 11-year-old Soun took 3rd on beam while teammate Sarah Gordon-Macey took 2nd on vault. In the 12+ age division Crowder took 3rd on bars, 2nd on floor and 3rd in the all-around.

Brianna Paul, Kaylin Voudren, Mei Genest, Tula Campman, Leila Young, Loren Pike, Challie Vicary, Kate Perrin, Ellie Flynn, Avery White, Julia Angell, Sarah Gallagher, and Ivy Dall took 3rd in the level 4 team competition. In the 11-year-old age division, Genest took 2nd on vault and floor and 3rd on beam and in the all-around. Campman took 1st on beam with a 9.75 and 1st on floor with a 9.55, the highest floor score of the level 4 meet in any age division.

Althea Champion and Nicolette Rivas competed in the level 6 individual competition. Champion took 1st on bars, 2nd on floor, and 2nd in the all-around in the 11-12-year-old age division. Rivas took 2nd on bars in the 13-14-year-old age division.

Carly Gallivan, Cassidy Gallivan, Janie Hawthorne, and Sarah Young took 2nd in the level 7 team competition. Carly Gallivan is the youngest level 7 in Vermont and went unchallenged in the 8-10-year-old age division, taking gold on all 4 events in the all-around with a 37.2. Cassidy Gallivan, Carly’s sister, took 3rd in the all-around in the 11-12-year-old age division. In the 13-14-year-old age division, Hawthorne took 1st on bars with a 9.7, 2nd on beam, and 2nd in the all-around while Young took 3rd on beam and floor. Carly Gallivan and Hawthorne were among the top 7 level 7 gymnasts in the state that qualified for the USAG Regional Competition to be held in Woburn, Mass., on April 26.

Woodman had one level 8 competitor, Ella Warner, who went unchallenged in her age division capturing gold on all 4 events and earning her title of State Champion. Warner is the youngest level 8 in Vermont and had impressive performances on all four events. Her 9.425 bars score was the highest score on the event in all the age divisions combined. Warner qualified 3rd for Regionals out of all the level 8’s in the state, regardless of age group, earning a spot on the Vermont Superteam.

Woodman’s highest level gymnast, level 9 senior Nenah Fitch, ended her competition season with a bang by capturing gold on vault and bars, earning her the title of All-around State Champion.

Athletes from Woodman Athletics also competed in the Gold, Platinum, and Diamond Xcel levels. Maeve Smith, Sawyer Beauchamp, and Madeline Rapp took 5th place in the Xcel Gold team competition. Beauchamp placed 3rd on floor in the 11-12-year-old age division while teammate Rapp placed 2nd on vault and beam and 1st on floor. Audrey Lamorder, Ellen Greenwood, and Xixi Matathias took 3rd in the Xcel Platinum team competition. Lamorder placed 2nd in the all-around 11-12-year-old age division. Greenwood placed 1st on vault, 3rd on floor, and 2nd in the all-around. Moriah Pabo, Elena Tansley, Lily Pabo, and Sophie Knittle captured team gold in the Xcel Diamond team competition. Moriah Pabo is the youngest Xcel Diamond competitor in Vermont and went unchallenged in the 13-14-year-old age division, taking gold on all 4 events and in the all-around. Tansley, Lily Pabo, and Knittle dominated the Xcel Diamond 15-18-year-old age division. Lily Pabo took 1st on vault and bars, 2nd on beam, and 3rd on floor to earn her title of All-around State Champion. Knittle took 3rd on vault, 2nd on bars and floor, 1st on beam, and 2nd in the all-around. All of Woodman’s Platinum and Diamond gymnasts qualified for Regionals to be held May 31 in Shrewbury, Mass.
