Wright’s team off to 4-2 start

BRATTLEBORO -- The Rutland Legion baseball team remained undefeated with a 2-1 victory over Brattleboro, in extra innings, on Monday.

"It was a really well-played game. Danny Richardson pitched well and Chris Lasch played well behind the plate for us. We made some nice defensive plays," said Post 5 coach Wayne Wright.

Brattleboro, which dropped to 4-2 in league play, will play a doubleheader at Lakes Region on Saturday. Rutland improved to 7-0 with the win.

Trailing 1-0, Post 5 pulled even in the fourth on an RBI single from Kassidi Ramirez. Cam Wright got the visitors on the board after doubling to left.

Rutland drew first blood in the opening frame and ended the game with another run in the eighth.

Richardson fanned four and scattered seven hits. And Ryan McAuliffe had a pair of hits to lead the Brattleboro attack.

On Saturday, Post 5 exploded for four runs in the seventh and defeated Hartford, 7-4, in a nine-inning contest.

Cam Wright had three hits to pace the winners in that one. Rob Heileman, George Atkins, Jeff Kerylow and Ramirez all finished with two hits.

Chris Lasch singled and Wright doubled to start the seventh-inning rally. A two-run single from Ramirez deadlocked the game at 4-4, before Chris McAuliffe and Heileman added RBI singles. Kerylow drove in an insurance run in the ninth.

Kevin Tao picked up the win. He struck out nine, walked two and gave up a dozen hits.
