Write Action seeks writing contest entries
BRATTLEBORO -- Write Action announces the eighth annual Write Action Prose and Poetry Writing Contest. The theme this year is "A Different World." This theme may be interpreted any way the writer wishes.
The Writing Contest kicked off on April 1, and the deadline is June 30. All entries must be postmarked no later than Saturday, June 30. A panel of local writers will be the contest judges.
Prose works are limited to a maximum of 1,500 words, double-spaced. Poems may be no longer than one page (single spaced). Writers are invited to submit up to three prose works, and/or up to three poems. The first submission in either category is free; there is a $5 fee for each subsequent submitted piece.
Four typed copies of each submission must be mailed to Write Action, PO Box 822, Brattleboro, VT 05302. The writer’s name, address, phone number and e-mail address must appear on a separate accompanying cover page -- this will insure that the judging will be blind. There can be no identifying information on any of the submitted pages of a writer’s work.
Prizes include: First place winner in each category $100 prize, second- and third-place winners, $50 and $25, respectively. Winners will be announced at the Annual Write Action Picnic in August.
There is a Youth Category, open to writers 18 years of age or younger, with no entry fee required. Youth winners will receive $25. Mark "Youth Category" on the cover page. Follow the guidelines above: four typed copies, mailed to Write Action; postmarked before June 30.
