Young girl asks for donations instead of presents

TOWNSHEND >> While some 9-year-old girls blow out their birthday candles wishing for a new doll, one local young lady is asking for community support in lieu of presents.

Jacy Stillwagon is hosting her 9th birthday party at the Townshend Common and is hoping to fill the gazebo with donations for the Windham County Humane Society. Stillwagon's mother, Destiny Stillwagon, proposed the idea to Jacy and as an animal lover herself, she gladly accepted.

"Whenever we drive by the Humane Society, Jacy asks to stop and pet dogs," said Destiny.

While Stillwagon's birthday party is invite only, she is asking the community to stop by to drop off donations that are listed on the Humane Society's website, Donations can be dropped off at the Townshend Common on Saturday, June 25, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the list of suggested items are found under the "Shelter Wish List," which includes cat, dog, shelter and supplies for the office.

Destiny said she got the idea from a "pin" she saw on Pinterest, a content sharing service that allows members to "pin" images, videos and other objects to their pinboard. Destiny notes Jacy will receive presents for her personally from family, but friends and the community, including her entire third grade class at NewBrook Elementary are asked to bring donations from the Windham County Humane Society.
