BRATTLEBORO — The Brattleboro Museum & Art Center (BMAC) presents an Introduction to Tarot on Wednesday, from 7 to 9 p.m. Tarot experts Margaret Shipman and Stacy Salpietro-Babb will lead this workshop for beginners. Admission is $30 ($25 for BMAC members).

Advance registration is required at or 802-257-0124 x101. Participants will learn the basics of the structure of the tarot deck and begin to uncover the meanings and themes found in the cards.

Shipman and Salpietro-Babb will describe how they created The Wayfarer Tarot and designed its unique imagery.

The techniques taught in this workshop can also be used with any traditional tarot deck.

Salpietro-Babb has 20 years of experience as a tarot reader. Shipman is an artist and graphic designer who began as a student of Salpietrio-Babb's in 2013 and now collaborates with her on The Wayfarer Tarot deck.

This event is presented in conjunction with the exhibit "Thelma Appel: Observed/Abstract," a survey of the career of painter Thelma Appel on view at BMAC through February 9, 2020. In recent years, Appel painted a series of works based on the tarot, several of which are included in the exhibit.

BMAC is located in historic Union Station, at the intersection of Main Street and Routes 119 and 142. For more information, call 802-257-0124 or visit
