CHESTERFIELD, N.H. — A passing thunderstorm shut down westbound Route 9 in Chesterfield at about 11:30 a.m. on Thursday after wet paint was liquefied by rain. According to a spokesman for the N.H. Department of Transportation, a private contractor was respraying the lines on the newly repaved roadway between Route 63 and the Vermont state lane when the thunderstorm struck. The westbound lane was reopened after the watery paint washed away. Traffic traveling west was diverted south on Route 63 to Hinsdale and then west on Route 119 to Brattleboro, Vt.
