MARLBORO — More than 20 local firefighters responded to a house fire on MacArthur Road around noon on Christmas Eve.

Engine One from the Brattleboro Fire Department was the first on scene, followed shortly afterward by engines and tankers from Marlboro, Halifax, Guilford and Wilmington. Rescue Inc. personnel were also on scene as was a trooper from the Vermont State Police.

According to firefighters on the scene, this is the second fire within the past several years at this location, which is visible from Route 9.

Getting the fire under control and putting out the embers was made difficult by a long icy driveway. Hoses were extended from tankers at the intersection of Route 9 and MacArthur Road to an engine at the top of the driveway.

The house is considered a total loss. There was no information by 2:20 p.m. as to what caused the fire or if there were any injuries as a result of the blaze. According to a post on social media by one of the residents of the house, no one was in the building at the time of the fire.
