WEST DOVER — For many locals and guests, eating at Betsey's Dot's of Dover and skiing at Mount Snow just up the road were synonymous, but a fire at the diner last month has temporarily changed that.
And so, the ski resort is holding a raffle Saturday to help Betsey Reagan get her beloved establishment back up and running.
"For years Dot's has been the place where so many skiers and riders have started their day with a hearty breakfast before heading out on the trails," said Erik Barnes, general manager of Mount Snow. "It's been great to see the community rally around and support Betsey and her staff during this difficult time. We're hoping people open their hearts, and their wallets, this weekend to help out with this fundraiser. We're excited to see how much we can raise for this great community institution, and can't wait to see them rebuild."
Jamie Storrs, director of communications for Mount Snow's parent company Peak Resorts, said an old four-person chair from the Grand Summit Express lift has been refurbished, and Travis Wendel of Pioneer Timber Frames built a custom post-and-beam frame to hold it and allow it to swing.
Tickets will go on sale at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in the Main Base area of Mount Snow. They cost $5 each.
As of 1 p.m. Wednesday, $19,750 had been raised for Reagan via gofundme.com/relief-for-dots-of-dover, which was created by staff at a new West Dover restaurant called Nosh on Jan. 20. Their goal is to reach $20,000.
"We need our biscuits and gravy back!" one donor wrote on the page.
Another wrote, "My kids grew up eating your pancakes and chocolate milk. You NEED to rebuild!"
