WASHINGTON -- U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., was presented with the Col. Arthur T. Marix Congressional Leadership Award by the Military Officers Association of America during an award ceremony this week in Capitol Hill.

General John Tilelli, Jr., chairman of the Board of Directors for MOAA presented Sen. Sanders with the award for his strong support of the uniformed services community.

MOAA has awarded the Marix Award since 1997 and is the nation's largest association of active duty, National Guard, reserve, retired and former military officers. Sanders is chairman of the Senate Committee on Veterans' Affairs and the author of the Comprehensive Veterans Health and Benefits and Military Retirement Pay Restoration Act of 2014.
