BRATTLEBORO — The Brattleboro Recreation & Parks Department is taking registrations for its youth basketball program this winter. Additional registration hours will be held on Nov. 10 and 12 from 1-6 p.m. at the Gibson Aiken Center. Due to COVID-19, masks will be mandatory.

If you are not a Vermont resident and wish to participate, you must reside in a green county according to the State of Vermont Agency of Commerce and Community Development Cross State Travel Information map. This map can be found at: https://accd.vermont.gov/covid-19/restart/cross-state-travel and is updated weekly. Children may not be able to participate weekly based on their county color if they reside in a state other than Vermont.

The basketball league will be broken down as follows:

Kindergarten Basketball is for children currently enrolled in kindergarten and looking to learn the fundamentals of basketball. Skills will be taught in a fun and exciting way to the children. This is a five-week program with one practice each week. The cost for this program is $25 for Brattleboro residents and $40 for all others. T-shirts are included in the fee. Masks will be mandatory, while parents or legal guardians at practices will be limited to one per child. Due to state guidelines, siblings and more than one parent/legal guardian per child/household will not be permitted.

Instructional Coed Basketball is for children in grades 1-2. The fee for the program is $35 for Brattleboro residents and $50 for everyone else. T-shirts are included in the fee. This program gives children a great opportunity to meet others their own age while getting exercise, instruction and having fun. Players will have a practice once a week and all games are inhouse and on Friday evenings. Masks will be mandatory, while parents or legal guardians at practices and games will be limited to one per child. Due to state guidelines, siblings and more than one adult or legal guardian per child/household will not be permitted.

Junior/Senior Division Boys Basketball is for boys in grades 3-4 and 5-6, respectively. The fee for the program is $50 for Brattleboro residents and $65 for everyone else. T-shirts are included in the fee. This program gives children a great opportunity to meet others their own age while getting exercise, instruction and having fun. There will be one practice and one game per week. Due to COVID-19, masks will be mandatory, while parents or legal guardians will not be permitted at practices and only one parent or legal guardian will be permitted per child at games. Volunteer coaches are needed for all age groups.

Players are asked to wear sneakers and bring a water bottle and mask to each practice and game. All games may be modified to a 3-on-3 or 4-on-4 format based on program participant numbers.

The Brattleboro Recreation & Parks Department will be offering Men’s Adult Basketball Open Gym & Pickup Games at the Gibson Aiken Center. This program is by donation and will be on Wednesdays and Fridays from 7-8:30 p.m. beginning immediately. Please note that this program is for men 18 and older and all participants must be out of high school. All participants must arrive between 7-7:15 p.m. to participate. No one will be allowed in past 7:15 p.m.

The gym will be open for pick-up play and under current state guidelines scrimmages and pick-up games are permitted. Due to COVID-19, there are new requirements to this program.

Requirements: 1)All participants must wear masks at all times. Participants will be screened for COVID-19 upon arrival. 2)If you are not a Vermont resident and wish to participate, you must reside in a green county according to the State of Vermont Agency of Commerce and Community Development Cross State Travel Information map. Due to current COVID-19 guidelines, children, spectators, and fans are not permitted. 4)Everyone must sign in daily with staff and provide their name and phone number. Everyone must complete a registration form and COVID-19 release waiver. Both documents can be found online at brattleboro.org. Program participants will not be allowed to enter/participate if the appropriate paperwork is not completed.
