BRATTLEBORO — Braeden Carleton struck again.

The senior striker, who had broken the ice just three minutes into Wednesday night's varsity boys soccer match on Natowich Field, converted on a penalty kick in overtime to give Rutland a thrilling 2-1 victory over Brattleboro.

Trailing 1-0, the Colonels dominated in the second half. Emilio Ogden missed wide right, Sam Hall pushed one to the left and Keegan Allembert's header was caught before Alex Lier scored from the left wing with 25:17 remaining to pull the hosts even.

The tide had turned.

But Ayoub Lajhar's PK sailed high and then his free kick found the back of the net — the goal was negated when the ref explained that it was indirect.

Carleton was denied by Brattleboro keeper Paul "the Wall" McGillion on a breakaway down the stretch, however the senior would become the hero just three minutes into the bonus period.

McGillion finished with six saves for the 4-3 Colonels. Ben Kowalski and Allembert each came up with an important steal, while Ben Diamondstone made a critical clear.

Zinabu McNeice was solid in the back line for the purple and white, getting the ball to Lajhar a couple of times to start a BUHS attack.
