Brattleboro lost to Essex 9-0 during the Division 1 Baseball Championship game at Centennial Field, in Burlington, Vt., on Monday, June 13, 2022.

BURLINGTON — The teams that had to travel long distances didn’t fare very well on Monday night.

Just before the Celtics lost Game 5 in San Francisco by 10 points, No. 3 Brattleboro was defeated by fourth-seeded Essex 9-0 in the Division 1 baseball state title game at Centennial Field.

The Andrews were spectacular, with Wiggins recording a double-double for the Warriors and Goodrich pitching a two-hit shutout for the champs.

“I have a good feeling about this one,” said Jackson Emery’s excited mom prior to the battle at UVM.

Tim Rooney was all smiles as he walked into the park.

“Let’s go, Moose!” another Brattleboro backer shouted as starter Alex Bingham worked from the hill in the first frame.

Fans were seen snapping photos each time their son dug in, with that player’s picture, name and jersey number all being shown on the scoreboard.
