SAXTONS RIVER — Vermont Academy hired Wendy Bordeau as its new crew coach. Bordeau is a standout rower with a nationally recognized resume. She will also become Vermont Academy's director of college counseling.
Bordeau is a 1998 magna cum laude graduate of Princeton with a B.A. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. She won the Leslie K. Johnson Memorial Award for outstanding senior thesis work in 1998. While at Princeton she captained the 1998 Princeton crew. She won a gold medal at the Eastern Sprints in 1995 as a member of the first novice eight and struck gold again at the Eastern Sprints in 1997 as a member of the first varsity eight. Bordeau also competed in the first two NCAA championship regattas, in 1997 and 1998.
After graduating from Princeton, Bordeau became the assistant coach for Cornell University's crew, where she also assisted in recruiting and program administration. In 2001 she was awarded Novice Coach of the Year by the Eastern Association of Women's Rowing Colleges (EAWRC). Her crew was the undefeated EAWRC Sprints Champion that same year.
Bordeau returned to Princeton to become the first assistant coach for women's rowing. She recruited and developed all of the members of the undefeated 2006 NCAA Champion Crew. In 2002 she was again awarded Novice Coach of the Year by EAWRC. Her crew was the undefeated EAWRC Sprints Champion in 2002 and 2004.
She left Princeton to become the head coach for Dartmouth College women's rowing. She served two stints as head coach and in between served as Dartmouth's senior associate athletics director. She rebuilt Dartmouth's crew to national relevance in just two years, achieving the highest 1V finish at the NCAA Championship in program history. She recruited and subsequently developed several All-Americans, Academic All-Americans, and National and Olympic Team competitors. In 2011 she was named the Collegiate Rowing Association New England Coach of the Year. She was chosen in a select group to participate in the NCAA Women's Coaching Academy and served as Dartmouth Athletics' deputy Title IX coordinator.
Bordeau currently lives in North Pomfret, and has two young daughters. She looks forward to joining the Vermont Academy community.
