CASTLETON — The Vermont North-South Softball Classic will be held at Castleton University July 1-2. A couple of seven-inning games will be played on July 1 starting at 4 p.m., with a nine-inning contest set for July 2 at 11 a.m.
Brattleboro Union High School pitcher Leah Madore and catcher Brittney Wright are both on the South’s roster. Madore struck out 17 batters in her team’s 5-4 victory over North Country in a Division 1 playoff game on Sawyer Field. Wright had a couple of hits in that showdown, including an RBI double.
Also playing for the South will be: Otter Valley’s Riley Keith and Marissa Connors; Fair Haven’s Olivia Almeida and Mercedes Cathcart; Rutland’s Samera Rideout, Tamara Sabotka and Alyssa Kennedy; Poultney’s Kaylah Bennett; Springfield’s Ari Cioffi and Izzy Belisle; Audrey Tumbreull of Vergennes; Windsor’s Megan Holling, Peyton Richardson and Karen Kapuscinski; Green Mountain’s Kim Cummings; and Proctor’s Laci French.
Fair Haven’s Bill Jones is the coach of the South team and will be assisted by Wally Fabian and Tony Lamberton.
Saint Johnsbury’s Jeremey Roberts is the North’s skipper, with Aaron Carr and Chris Carr assisting. That squad’s players are: the Essex trio of Grace Cook, Emilyrose Mercier and Cailey Appenzeller; Lyndon’s Natalie Tenney, Emma Newland, Isabelle Priest and Brydie Barton; Cadence Moore of BFA-St. Albans; Saint J’s Taylor Farnsworth, Adrianna Lemieux and Delaney Rankin; Missisquoi’s Alexandra Brouillette; Danville’s Ava Marshia and Rylie Cadieux; Enosburg’s Dana Elkins and Emma Keelty; CVU’s Sophia Stevens; and Chloe Palmer of Colchester.
