BRATTLEBORO — First-year coaches Jay Cudworth and Anna Kayes will attempt to guide their Brattleboro varsity soccer teams to victory on Homecoming Weekend, with the BUHS boys (5-2-0) hosting Green Mountain (6-1-0) on Saturday at 10 a.m. and the BUHS girls (2-6-1) following with a noon contest versus Burr and Burton (8-2-0).

Cudworth and company won the program's fourth John James Tournament title by beating BBA 6-3 on Sept. 12 and then routing Arlington 6-1 on Sept. 14. A pair of freshmen showed out, with Ayoub Lajhar scoring four goals against the Eagles to secure the Best Offensive Player Award and netminder Paul McGillion being named Best Defensive Player.

The girls game is a rematch of a Sept. 5 meeting in Bennington, which the Bulldogs won 6-1. Grace Pinkus had a hat trick for the winners in that Patriot Classic event. Sylvie Normandeau scored on a 40-yard free kick for the Colonels.

After those two showdowns on the pitch, the Brattleboro varsity field hockey team (2-5-0) will take on Fair Haven (0-8-0) at 2:30 p.m.

The Colonels zipped the Slaters 4-0 on Sept. 14. Katryna Jarvis tallied twice to lead the way, while Rachael Rooney and Edie Kay also fired a shot past the Fair Haven goalie.
